Autumn Riding - Which Hi-Vis When?
Wearing Hi-Vis whilst out riding is an essential part of keeping both you and your horses safe, but did you know that different colours are better for different times of year? In this article we will look at the best hi-vis for riding, and also the best time of year to wear it!
Wearing a Hi-Vis makes it easier for other road users to see you, giving them more time to react and slow down as they approach. Also, if you were to have an accident and part ways with your horse, wearing Hi-Vis can make you easier to find too!
The best colour of hi-vis to use can greatly depend on the season, and which colours are present in the ‘back drop’ that you are riding in. To really stand out you can wear several colours, e.g. wearing an orange vest, pink hat band and yellow brushing boots will really help you to be more visible.
Living in the British countryside also brings British weather- just because it’s sunny when you set off, doesn’t mean it will be sunny on the way home!
Autumn - Yellow Hi-Vis
In the Autumn months, there are naturally lots of oranges in the hedge rows, this means that wearing a contrasting colour can really help you stand out. Yellow is the colour we recommend for the Autumn, especially as the nights are starting to draw in!
This vest from the HyVIS range sports a zip fastening and a handy phone pocket too. With reflective strips on the front and back, this vest will really help you to stand out.
Winter - Pink, Yellow or Orange Hi-Vis
In the winter months when the natural tones are browns, greys and whites, this is where any of the 3 colours would be a good choice. You can combine your hi-vis waistcoats with hat or leg bands too for extra viability. During the cooler months, adding a Hi-Vis quarter sheet to your accessories not only helps you be seen, but can help keep your horse warm too!
This lightweight exercise sheet is designed to offer maximum visibility. It features reflective piping around the edges and a double reflective strip on both sides that also appears across the tail flap. Shaped around the saddle to leave clearance for the riders legs, the exercise sheet is secured with touch tape fastenings to the front of the saddle and a fillet string.
Spring - Pink Hi-Vis
In the spring, oranges and greens are present in hedgerows and trees, therefore the best colour of choice may be pink, as it’s a different contrast from the environment.
The HyVIZ Hat Band fits neatly around any riding hat. Fluorescent with silver retro-reflective tape for style and safety on an elasticated band to keep the hat band in position. All year round visibility.
Summer - Orange & Pink
In the summer, the skies are blue (mostly!), and the hedges and trees are thick with green growth. Lots of green in the hedges can make yellow difficult to spot, A contrasting colour to this would be oranges and pinks which is what we recommend for this time of year.
The HyVIZ Tail Band fits neatly around every horse's tail. All year round visibility. One size fits all. Available in Orange Yellow or Pink.
