All about our new in-house faecal egg counting (FEC) service

Introducing FECPAK...

We are excited to be able to now offer and in-house faecal egg counting service at Welland Valley feeds. We have collaborated with FECPAK, a diagnostic platform that enables out SQP’s to carry out testing and advise you on when to worm your animals and what to treat them with. Faecal egg counting is a valuable tool to help us to make the best decisions on anthelmintic use in our animals. Testing means you only worm when you really need to which can save you money, improve your animal's health and safeguard the future of worming by minimising the chance of anthelmintic resistance by overuse!

The service covers equines, sheep, cattle, goats and alpacas and we can have results for you in as little as three hours. The process for you, the customer, couldn’t be simpler.

When you have collected your sample, just make sure it is labelled with your name and phone number and bring it into one of the staff in store. They will run through some quick details with you and gather some information on our submission form and that’s everything that you need to do!

Once we have your sample, it gets stored in a designated fridge until it is processed. Samples can be stored for up to a week if they are kept cool! If your sample is urgent, please make sure whoever you hand the sample too marks this down on the submission form so that we can ensure it is carried out as quickly as possible for you. Initially we are carrying out testing on a Thursday, but we can be flexible if we need to be.

Your sample will be processed and once we have the results, one of our qualified animal medicines advisors will be in touch to discuss your results, so make sure we have a method of contact for you on the submission form!

Depending on the results, we can then assist you in making the best choice of treatment (which may be no treatment at all!) for your animals.

Prices start from under £10, making it a pocket friendly way to give your animals the care and treatment that they deserve. If you have any questions, please contact us on 01858461463.
