What will you see?

The brilliant thing about the Birdwatch is that you never know what you might see. It pays to expect the unexpected, with previous rare sightings including an American green heron and a Siberian lesser whitethroat. But for many of us, the more common birds are just as heartening. Who isn’t cheered by a cheeky robin and who doesn’t love a troop of long-tailed tits? All birds bring joy when we take time out to enjoy them. But our wildlife is changing. In the past 50 years, we have lost 38 million birds. One Birdwatch regular, the greenfinch, has declined so much that in 2021 it was placed on the UK red list for Birds. The Big Garden Birdwatch helps monitor how our birds are faring. Discover the garden birds that you might see this year.
